On Saturday, June 24 from 5 to 7 pm at Davis Orton Gallery on 114 Warren St. in Hudson, NY, the new photographic exhibition “Prison” will open with a reception for artists and artist talk. The exhibition will run at Davis Orton Gallery from June 24 to July 23. During the run of the exhibition, the Prison Public Memory Project and Davis Orton Gallery will co-sponsor four Thursday evening programs related to Hudson, prisons, and incarceration.
“Prison” features works by exhibiting artists Joe Librandi-Cowan and Isadora Kosofsky, as well as portfolio showcases of prison related photography by Jason Koxvold and Dana Ullman. The displayed works explore themes related to prisons, prison communities, and incarcerated people and their families from each artist's unique perspective. At the exhibition's opening reception, each of the artists will be present to speak and answer questions about their work. This event is free and open to the public. Four Thursday Evening Programs in the Gallery*
During the run of the exhibition, the Prison Public Memory Project and Davis Orton Gallery will co-sponsor four Thursday evening programs at the gallery from 6 to 7:30 pm. These programs will consist of presentations, films, and panels on topics related to Hudson, prisons, and incarceration.
JUNE 29 Illustrated Talk: Hudson’s Prison History: 1887 to the Present. Presented by Peter Tenerowicz, former corrections officer at Hudson Correctional Facility and Prison Public Memory Project Hudson Advisory Committee member.
JULY 6 Film Yes, In My Backyard, a 1999 documentary examining a small town and its prison. Q&A after screening with Tracy Huling, Producer/Director.
JULY 13 Panel Discussion. Community Justice Advocacy led by Cedrick Fulton, Director of Community Engagement, SBK Social Justice Center, Hudson NY.
JULY 20 Film, Slides and Presentation: Greater Hudson Initiative for Children of Incarcerated Parents and Issues of Reentry. Program Leader: Joan E. Hunt, Director, Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood.
